Comment: HSB Diesel Locomotive 199 006 (Type V 10 C)The state owned VEB Locomotive "Karl Marx" (LKM) in Potsdam-Babelsberg built the class Ns 4 narrow gauge diesel locomotives in the Fifties as a further development of the army field railroad type HF 130 C. A 90 horsepower motor provided the necessary drive power and transmitted power to the three wheelset by means of a four-speed gear train, jackshafts, and coupling rods. At LKM as a result came the type V 10 C narrow gauge diesel locomotive from the type Ns 4. A 100 horsepower motor from the state owned VEB Diesel Motor Works Schönebeck and a modern external look were the most striking characteristics of these units, which were produced for gauges between 600 and 1,000 millimeters / 24 and 36 inches in about 500 units. Only a few units here went immediately to the German State Railroad (DR).After abandonment of the Spreewald Railroad (1,000 mm / 36"), a leftover piece of the military air base in the Cottbus city limits had to be serviced with a tank car (aviation fuel) loaded on a roller trailer und switching work had to be done on the meter gauge Cottbus Streetcar system. On September 25, 1969, the DR bought for this purpose two type V 10 C locomotives built in 1964 from the state owned VEB Impregnation and Particleboard Factory Gotha. They were put on the roster as Kö 7001 and 7002 (starting July 1, 1970: 100 905 and 906, starting August 15, 1973: 199 005 and 006). In February of 1983, the connecting track to the air base was changed to standard gauge. Both diesel locomotives were used at the end for the dismantling trains. Then they were moved to the Harzquer and Brocken Railroad, where they arrived on March 26, 1983 in Wernigerode. In the Harz region, these small diesel locomotives earned their daily keep with switching work in the stations of Gernrode, Nordhausen, and Wernigerode. With the discontinuation of narrow gauge freight service on April 1, 1990, these tasks were largely done away with. The DR therefore finally put both small locomotives into storage on April 10, 1991 and retired them soon thereafter. In the new classification plan of 1992 they were carried on the books a little while longer as road numbers 399 112 and 113. On February 1, 1993, they went under their old road numbers to the roster of the now privatized Harz Narrow Gauge Railways, Inc. (HSB). The HSB had them stored in North Nordhausen, non-operational diesel locomotives on permanent loan to and in the care of the "IG Harz Narrow Gauge Railways". Road number 199 005 was loaded with a crane on a truck trailer on June 29, 2018 and a day later reached the "IG Spreewald Railroad" its old home on permanent loan from the HSB, the Spree Forest in Straupitz. After an external restoration, this locomotive is to become the showpiece on the museum grounds of the association.

Running sounds will also work in analog operation.

Comment: Shortly after the end of World War II, structural change was massively instituted on the American railroads. General Motors (GM) snapped up the largest piece of the cake with its subsidiary Electro-Motive Division (EMD), which was responsible for diesel locomotive production. To the horror of all steam locomotives, the legendary F7A/B was developed, built from 1949 to 1954, which triggered real declines among the black giants. All total 2,366 A units (with a cab) and 1,483 B units (without a cab) left the builder. This ensured them third place in the hit list of the most built American diesel locomotives. Their main area of use was pulling through freight trains as well as passenger trains. They were conversely less suited for local freight service with its extensive switching maneuvers. The frontend arrangement of the streamlined cabs greatly limited the view to the back. Yet just this cab in the "Bulldog" design became the unmistakable characteristic of this type, which still currently thrills railroad fans around the world. For the most part a series 567B 16-cylinder diesel motor with 1,521 horsepower (1,119 kilowatts) at 800 rpm supplied the drive for the F7. A DC generator mechanically coupled to the flywheel end of the motor powered the four traction motors, whereby each two-axle Blomberg truck was equipped with two motors. The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF, Santa Fe for short) alone purchased 215 A units and 246 B units of the F7 between September of 1949 and May of 1953. Of these 57 locomotives with a cab and 88 units without a cab had the famous Warbonnet design in red, yellow, and silver. These units were used mainly to pull the Santa Fe passenger trains such as the famous Pullman train "Super Chief", which ran between Chicago and Los Angeles and was equipped from 1951 to the mid-Sixties with the F7. After its introduction in May of 1936, the "Super Chief" quickly advanced to "the" train between Chicago and Los Angeles, exactly like the deluxe train "20th Century Limited" of the New York Central Railroad, which was the preferred travel possibility of that time on the East Coast between New York and Chicago. The luxurious "Super Chief" was soon also considered after its introduction as "The Train of the Stars", because it was used by many prominent people and Hollywood celebrities such as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, James Cagney, Judy Garland, and Bing Crosby. It was also frequented by former Presidents Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower and their wives.

The body is partially chrome-plated to show the original locomotive's typical stainless steel look. Running sounds will also work in analog operation.

Comment: RhB Class Ge 6/6 II Electric LocomotiveThe Rhaetian Railroad (RhB) urgently needed more powerful locomotives for the power plant construction planned starting in the mid-Fifties for Bergell (Albigna) and the related extensive transport of cement from Untervaz near Landquart to the Grisons (up to 1,000 metric tons daily). They had to meet the following requirements: A locomotive by itself had to be able to haul a train with the largest permissible load for the couplers, which with a 3.5% grade (Albula Line) was around 250 metric tons and with a 4.5% grade (Küblis - Davos) was still around 180 metric tons. Such a unit was the result of cooperation with SLM (mechanical part) as well as BBC and MFO (electrical part) with three two-axle trucks and a divided locomotive body with articulation in the center, which best met the conditions and in particular the RhB's line characteristics. In 1955, two such class Ge 6/6 II locomotives were initially ordered and delivered by mid-1958 with road numbers 701 and 702. The outer trucks as well as the single-phase series-wound motors were identical with those of the class Ge 4/4 I, road numbers 601-610. The 294-kilowatt (400 horsepower) traction motors were controlled by a low-voltage stepped control system, which was state of the art for that time. Twenty-eight speed steps with voltages of around 70 volts to 480 volts and 15 electrical braking steps were present. The recuperative brake system worked on descending grades according to the proven MFO excitation motor circuit. These two six-axle units turned out so well that the RhB ordered another five units in 1964 for the Albula express trains that were becoming constantly heavier. These five units were delivered in 1965 with road numbers 703-707. While the preproduction locomotives still had doors on the ends (welded shut in 1968/69), the doors on the ends were done away with on the units built seven years later. Instead of three-part windshields, they had only two-part windshields. The ends of road numbers 701 and 702 were not altered to resemble the five newer locomotives until the Eighties. Starting in 1985 the class Ge 6/6 II units lost their green paint scheme and were gradually given the current red scheme as major overhauls came due. In 1998, the double arm pantographs finally had to make way for the modern single arm pantographs. After the introduction of the class Ge 4/4 III starting in 1994, the class Ge 6/6 II units wandered successively into freight service, but were still used now and then to pull passenger trains. With their comparatively high hourly output of 1,764 kilowatts / 2,365 horsepower, these six-axle units were still indispensable on the RhB after in some cases over 60 years of service.
