2012 Nurnberg Toy Fair

OK, first things first ... no, I did not consume all of the roast pork and dumplings in Bavaria on my last visit.
Here's some roast suckling pig from the first evening's fare:

And there was also still some wiener schnitzel left to be had as well...

OK, now the preliminaries are out of the way (just in case you thought I would starve on this trip)...
This was my 12th consecutive trip to the world famous Nurnberg Toy Fair, and I knew it would not disappoint.
The "Messe" (exhibition center) is huge, with more than a dozen buildings dedicated (this week) to toys!

First off is the colorful new Marklin 45098 auto transport car set with no less than 24 autos.
This is an MHI item for this year and will be in very short supply:

In the foreground below you can see the impressive "1962" Rheingold train set, consisting of the
37106 class E10.12 electric locomotive and 43873 / 43883 3-car passenger add-on sets.
These too are MHI items and will be highly sough after:

Here's a "sneak peek" at one of the two A-B-A sets coming out this year --
it's the 37628 "Kanas City Southern" train, complete with sound, mfx, etc.:

The very affordable (only $139 if you pre-order) 36607 SBB Cargo locomotive will be a big
hit with Swiss rail fans:

If you're looking for something brand new, Marklin will be producing a beautiful set of bi-level cars for the Dutch railroad.
The 37629 class 1700 electric locomotive and 43598 set of four bi-level cars will certainly add color to your layout:

The 37938 DRG P10 (2-8-2) locomotive will be the first in a series of 5 locomotives commemorating the famous
Borsig locomotive manufacturer.  The model will come with a special wood presentation case:

Keeping with the theme of steam locomotives, please check out the 37811 DB class 50 (2-10-0) below.
This is not like any BR 50 you might currently have.  This model is completely new for 2012, where the
5-axle driving section is not articulated, yet the locomotive will be able to negotiate R1 curves; neat!

Sure, I'll admit I have a lot of "favorites", but few come close to this next item.
It's the 37077 KPEV (Prussian) class T18 (4-6-4) tank locomotive.
Marklin last produced this in the late 1980's, so this is the first one ever produced
with a high-efficiency motor and (even better) sound effects!
You won't want to wait another 25 years to get one of these beauties:

And here is the new 37160, BR 94.5-18 steam tank locomotive with sound:

Here's a good shot of the 00767 "Red Marklin Lights" set.
Each car has a pickup shoe and red tail-lights:

Here's a photo of the new 37615 (BR 260) switcher and 37767 (class 218) diesel locomotives:

OK, enough trains.  Hungry?  How about some incredible potato soup and a wonderful cold, Bavarian beer:

Ooops -- I couldn't wait -- my kalbsrahmschnizel and potato salad just looked so good I had to take a bite!

OK, back to the trains...

Not exactly Marklin ... looks like Faller will have a new "Fun Ship" model for this year:

For this year, Marklin 1-Scale will have a very cool 55729 class 212 DB Cargo diesel locomotive:

... with some 583454 hopper cars to go with it:

The 1-Scale 55728 V100 will also be a new item for this year; very nice looking:

Back to HO, the 45653 set of box cars is one of four different  sets of US freight cars being offered this year:

The attractive Belgian 37678 class 55 diesel locomotive will go nicely with the 00768 "Mineraliers" ore car set:

How about some "real" trains -- here's a pair of BR 218 diesel locomotives at the Munich Hbf (main station):

Yes, it's "Hercules", the OBB (Austrian) class 2016 diesel -- getting ready for a trip back to Salzburg:

Here's a cool looking BR 101 with advertising for the Stuttgart-Ulm route.
We took this train to go from Munich to Göppingen:

And "Alex" (Allgau Express) is still alive and well in Bavaria:

A bright red class 111 graces the Göppingen station:

And who can resist an impressive looking ICE 3 train?

OK, gotta end with just one more incredible meal.  I mean, that is one of the reasons for traveling, no?
I'll let the pictures just speak for themselves:

Yum.  Until next year !!!
