Prototype: German Federal Railroad (DB) compartment car, 1st class, type A4üm-63 (later the type Am 203). UIC-X design (m cars).

Model: The car built-in interior details. It has the blue color scheme of the prototype from 1963 on. Realistically detailed trucks with a reproduction of the brake shoes and the generator mechanism. Unlighted red marker light inserts at the ends of the car. The car is ready for installation of lighting kits for the passenger area and marker lights. Minimum radius for operation 360 mm / 14-3/16”. Length over the buffers 282 mm / 11-1/8”.

Comment: Express Train Travel during the Economic Miracle - After the 1950s gave the German Federal Republic (West Germany) an economic upswing and the most important, private basic needs had been covered, many West Germans had a desire to travel. Yet, before the great growth in automobile ownership, the demand was growing for another series of modern passenger cars for long distance express service. The number of new design express train passenger cars placed into service since 1954 was no longer sufficient for this purpose. The DB therefore placed additional modern express train passenger cars into service from 1963 on. The following express train passenger car types belonged to this family of new cars: A4üm-61, 1st class (later the type Am 203), B4üm-63, 2nd class (later the type Bm 234), AB4üm-63, 1st/2nd class (later the type ABm 225), BRbu4üm-61, half dining car, 2nd class (later the type RBbumh 282), and BD4üm-61, half baggage car, 2nd class (later the type BDms 273). The designs for these cars followed for the most part the concept for the first postwar car types of 1953/54, but folding doors were used for the entry doors on the sides of the cars. Externally, the sliding windows with bright gold oxidized lightweight metal frames attracted attention also. The interiors experienced a series of changes in details. In addition, sliding doors were built into the ends of the cars. The 1st class cars with a cobalt blue paint scheme clearly stood out from the 2nd class cars and baggage cars in their chrome oxide green schemes. These consists were among the typical Era III trains used by the ”Economic Miracle children”, who had just arrived into a modest prosperity, to travel during their vacations.

Prototype: Standard design cars: German Federal Railroad (DB) type Kbs stake car and type Ommu 40 gondola. Also, two privately owned cars –“Löwenbräu München” type Ichqs refrigerator car and “GASOLIN” petroleum oil tank car. Used on the DB.

Model: 3 cars each of the 4 different car types = a total of 12 cars for the theme “Era III Freight Trains”. Type Ommu gondola with a load insert of “coal”. Stake car with a load of “Mannesmann” large pipe. All of the cars have different car numbers as well as Relex couplers. These cars come separately packaged and can be bought individually. Length over the buffers for each car 115 mm / 4-1/2”.

DRG Freight Car Set.

Prototype: German State Railroad Company (DRG) type O gondola with a brakeman's cab, type Vh Altona livestock, car, and a type Pwg freight train baggage car. Privately owened type G10 boxcar with insulated doors and a Bavarian designed privately owned spirits car, used on the DRG.

Model: Set with 5 Era II version freight cars. The type G10 privately owned brewery car and the privately owned spirits car were used on the DRG. They type O gondola comes with a load insert with a heaped layer of scale sized real coal. The freight train baggage car and the livestock car both have two sliding doors that can be opened. All of the cars come in Era II paint schemes. Total set lenght 489mm / 19-1/4".

Comment: These 5 freight cars go well with the Marklin class E91 electric locomotive, item 37196 and the Marklin car set 46090.

Prototype: Type B4p compartment car (former C4i-33d) and 2 each type B4p compartment car (former BC4i-33g). German State Railroad (DR) of former East Germany.

Model: 2 different Era III express train service compartment cars. The handrails on the entry doors are separately applied, and ladders are separately applied on the ends of the cars. The cars have built-in interior details. The cars have NEM coupler pockets and close coupler mechanisms. Car set length 512 mm / 20-3/16”.

Comment: Faster Passenger Flow – The German State Railroad Company (DRG) required fast, efficient cars for use in the Ruhr express service, cars that would allow it to master the expected passenger volumes. In addition, these cars had to fulfill the technical conceptions at the start of the 1930s. As far back as then the question was intensively debated whether locomotive hauled trains or powered rail cars would be preferable. The German State Railroad had special passenger cars developed in 1933 in order to clarify this question. These cars differed markedly from previous designs. Like the passengers ordered since 1930 for main lines, they were equipped with trucks and open vestibules with crossover plates, but they were equipped with a large number of side doors instead of large end entries to speed up the flow of passengers. This had already been done before with the earlier compartment cars. These cars were still in use on both state railroads in divided postwar Germany, i.e. also on the German State Railroad (DR) in former East Germany.

Model: Intermediate car lettered “FUSSBALL-WELTMEISTER 1954” (“WORLD SOCCER CHAMPIONS 1954”). This car allows you to transform the prototypically neutral 22608 VT 08.5 powered rail car train into the set for the return trip of the German soccer world champion team of 1954. Special close coupling at both ends for integrating this car into the powered rail car train consist. Built-in interior details. Interior lighting with maintenance-free LED’s. The interior lighting is powered by means of the special current-conducting coupling. Length over the buffers 283 mm / 11-1/8”.

This “SOCCER WORLD CHAMPIONS 1954” intermediate car model is being offered in the Marklin assortment for Marklin Insiders under item no. 42080. World Champion Return Trip in 1954 – Without a doubt the most spectacular use of a VT 08 powered rail car train was the return trip in this comfortable, special powered rail car train of the German national soccer team after they won the world championship in 1954 in Bern. This train was lettered for the occasion with “FUSSBALL-WELTMEISTER 1954” (“WORLD SOCCER CHAMPIONS 1954”). On the trip from Spiez, the headquarters of the German team, to Munich hundreds of thousands of soccer enthusiasts crowded into the stations to celebrate this sensational team. Over 20,000 fans eager to see the team overwhelmed the border station of Singen. They stood on station platforms, platform roofs, tracks, anywhere they could catch a glimpse of the train. The trip had to be repeatedly interrupted due to the masses of people.
